What is Myers’ Cocktail?
Myers’ Cocktail (also called Myers’ Cocktail IV and John Myers’ Cocktail) is a formula developed by a physician named Dr. John Myers in the 1970s. Myers’ infusions have become a very popular IV vitamin cocktail because its recipe or formulation contains vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, vitamin C, magnesium, phosphate, calcium, and more.
When Dr. Myers died in 1984, Dr. Alan Gaby continued to care for his IV vitamin therapy patients. He continued the research and modified some of the ingredients and dosages used by Dr. Myers and named the infusion “Myers’ Cocktail” in his honor.
During Dr. Gaby’s 15 years of medical practice in Baltimore, MD, he administered 15,000 Myers’ Cocktail infusions. Many health conditions were treated and found to have marked improvement on follow-up.

How is Myers’ Cocktail administered?
Just like any other vitamin infusion or IV drip, a small needle is placed in a vein in the arm, and your special formulation of vitamins is absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
What’s in a Myers’ Cocktail?
Various combinations of ingredients are administered in our patient’s personalized Myers’ Cocktail formulations. Our cocktail includes:
- magnesium chloride hexahydrate (Magnesium)
- calcium gluconate (Calcium)
- hydroxocobalamin (manufactured vitamin B12)
- pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6)

Magnesium is found to reduce fatigue, migraines, and muscle spasms. It may assist those at risk for cardiovascular disease.
Calcium
Calcium supports bone formation & strength and may decrease the incidence of irregular heartbeats.
B Vitamins
B-complex vitamins (especially vitamin B12) are essential for overall wellness. They’ve been found to directly impact energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism. B-Complex also helps support the growth of red blood cells, overall eye health, digestion, maintenance of a healthy appetite, cardiovascular health, muscle tone, and proper hormone and cholesterol levels.

When will I experience the positive effects of Myers’ Cocktail drip? How long do they last?
The effectiveness of Myers’ Cocktail IV treatment varies from patient to patient depending on the condition being treated. Follow-up sessions are scheduled based on each patient’s unique needs and goals.
Those suffering from chronic health conditions may require more frequent and routine administration of Myers’ Cocktail for a longer period. Though, even healthy individuals can benefit from more regular IV infusions to improve and maintain wellbeing.
For most, Myers’ Cocktail can be administered one to two times per week with beneficial effects being noticeable by the fourth visit.
There is a vast difference in outcome when comparing oral ingestion of vitamins and IV vitamin therapy. IV therapy increases the concentration of vitamins and nutrients that can be absorbed, beyond what can be absorbed via oral administration. For example, it has been shown that IV infusions of vitamin C can offer more than 50 times the blood concentration when compared to oral ingestion. The results are incomparable.
Is Myers’ Cocktail safe? Are there any side effects?
There are no specific side effects associated with the procedure or after receiving Myers’ Cocktail. Risks may include allergic reaction, bruising and/or redness at the IV site, bleeding, or infection as with any medication or procedure. Given that we take many precautions, we rarely see any notable side effects.
With intravenous magnesium and calcium, side effects may include a warming or “flushing” sensation in the chest, pelvic region, and face. Patients may experience minor discomfort, but there is no cause for concern.
If you experience any of these symptoms during treatment, immediately inform the healthcare professional administering and monitoring your procedure. They will immediately discontinue treatment until symptoms abate.
Individual responses to Myers’ Cocktail IV injections vary. First-time recipients may receive lower doses of certain ingredients as a precaution to lower the incidence of side effects.
If you are currently undergoing treatment for any medical conditions, consult with your healthcare provider before starting any vitamin supplementation.
